If you get the chance you should try to go to the Rocket Festival in Laos - Vang Vienne. I went last year around the 15th of May. One of the most wacked events I've ever seen.

Yo Manontheground Question???
25-Feb-2004
I see you did some rock climbing in Rio. Were there many routes to do? Do you know what kind of rock it was (granite sandstone ect??). Climbing is one of my obessions and South America is on my hit list for an extended trip. Thanks Spyder_rock.

"I want to thank you for joining TrekShare. We put one of your photos from Guilin on the mainpage today. Hope that's cool.

If you have any questions about TrekShare just post a note on my page. Just click my name on your TrekTalk board and you will be directed to my site.

You will get a good feel for the site by reading TrekNews which comes out monthly. If you opted out you can still sign up. It features many of our members and provides technology updates. The last 38 letters are in the archive if you want to see the progression of TrekShare over the last 3 years.

If you have any general travel questions please add them to the TrekTalk board. If you want a little history on the creation of TrekShare check our latest article published in Newsweek.

TrekTV is also WACK but you need a high speed connection to view it effectively. You can

find the video of Laos/Malaysia/Thailand/Japan under TrekTV. We just posted 2 shorts from our recent trip to Cuba. We've begun posting info and a few of the horror stories on the Cuba TrekSite. A couple members from the TrekShare Posse will be in Austin Texas from March 13th-21st showing some of the films in the South by Southwest film festival.

Hope to be able to feature some of your adventures in the future. Keep us posted

if there is anything you'd like to share with the community as a whole. If you have any insider tips on destinations you encounter on your world travels please put them in the TrekTips section. If you like what you see on someone elses page please TrekStar the content.

Re: Swimming in China? You're awfully brave

"That picture shows me swimming in the Li Jiang. No parasites no sickness no problems. Actually three of us westerners me a German and Brit went swimming that day and none of us had any problems.

I've also taken a dip in the chilly Nile just below Lake Nasser in Aswan and I've ""showered"" in a jungle creek that feeds into the Amazon.

Again no water-related problems in any of those places.

I'm also personally familiar with ""third world"" medicine after having surgery under general anesthesia in the Portuguese Hospital in Manaus Brazil. :-)"

Swimming in China? You're awfully brave

So this picture shows you actually swimming in that river? Didn't you get sick afterwards? In many Chinese rivers and lakes they have schistomastosis (I probably spelled that wrong) parasites that can burrow in through your skin and make you deathly ill unless you get proper medical treatment (which as you have probably experienced is elusive in China). Not to mention all the chemical pollution
Actually I'm not from Katy (not a native Texan but I went to school in San Antonio) but I figured you were from East TX after I read part of your website that mentioned 'gator hunting and Zydeco.
