When my wife and I decided to walk 1000-kilometers (650-miles) across Tibet from Lhasa to Kathmandu along an ancient pilgrim's route, the Chinese authorities said it was Impossible! It couldn't be done. There was no food, no water, no place to stay, the weather was impossible, etc., etc., etc.
