Northern Ethiopia with elevation of between 2000 to 4000 m above sea levels can be hellish to travel in. This is especially since ROADS are often unpaved and gravel or just non-existent and the buses employed are the steely ones, which rattle and are more suitable for city transport -- not mountains.

MOST tourists to Ethiopia opt for a 4-wheel drive. We thought we could save and do it the local way and the result is some very very tiring rides...
