Uganda’s tourism industry has been hit by speculation of an increment in the price of gorilla permits, creating mixed feelings amhref="http://katonatours.com/">tour operators, local communities and stakeholders in Uganda’s tourism industry.
The fact that we have not yet got an official message from Uganda Wildlife Authority, there have been rumors over the past month that the price of gorilla trekking permits for foreign visitors is to increase from USD 500 to USD 750.
According to the tour operators contacted the increase in gorilla permits may affect the gorilla trekking industry which yields the largest receipts to Uganda’s tourism industry.
Some tour operators and scholars argue that the increment may lead to increased prices for gorilla safaris and thus may affect mostly the budget travelers interested in trekking gorillas in Uganda.
In addition to that if the cost is not increased in Rwanda and Congo where gorilla tracking is carried out, many travelers are expected to opt for Rwanda Safaris and gorilla trekking in Congo where safaris will be much cheaper.
It should be noted that gorilla tours are the most expensive trips in Uganda if compared with other adventures in Uganda such as wildlife safaris (game viewing in Uganda’s national parks, chimpanzee tracking tours, mountaineering safaris and sightseeing trips in Kampala, Jinja etc.
