Trip - back to Wellington and Wanganui by cbarham
back to Wellington and Wanaganui
David Murray had an opening of his Glass castings at a gallery in Wellington, so with the promise of free booze, I jumped a plane from Auckland back down to Wellington. After the opening, the following morning, David, Emma and I drove back up the SH1 to Wanganui - where I was going to finish off the touristy things I didn't manage before. Up to see some preserved rainforest, beach sunsets and a curry or two :-) Superb breakfasts in the RedEye cafe in Wanganui by the way. Took a trip with Bill the postman on Rural delivery route 6 - he delivers post up the Whanganui river and takes people along for the ride. Met some real farming characters, and bizarrely, had lunch in a convent at Jerusalem - the nuns were all away, so in a spirit of neghbourliness; Bill and I chased all the cows that had invaded their garden off the flowerbeds :-) Jerusalem also being the site of a famous hippy commune a few years back, founded by a guy called Baxter. It's so remote, the houses are few and far between. 160kms there and back - with plenty of local gossip from Bill
