Day 4 Drove through Flagstaff and up to the Grand Canyon. Flagstaff seems nice, although I've heard negative things from people from Phoenix.
The Geography and Geology between flagstaff and the Grand Canyon is very interesting. There are trees with the bark peeled off to reveal a white wood inside. This is a very sloped drive. Before the entrance into the Grand Canyon there is a little tourist town.
When you enter the Grand Canyon national park you begin looking for this canyon. You won't see it until you're right on it. The trees line this thing near the entrance of the park. But as you drive the trees will clear and you see the massive rack of earth that you are merely feet away from. This this is deep, for real. You fall in, and it's not gonna be pretty. There are numerous places to look over into the canyon. Some gated, some not gated.
We stayed for about 3 hours.
We left and continued our trek towards Las Vegas. The terrain was consistently impressive and interesting. The rocks got redder as we approached Las Vegas. We stopped at Hoover Dam for a look. It looks kind-of futuristic.
We stopped at a camping spot at Lake Mead.
After we set up we left to go into Las Vegas. We stopped where the action seemed to be on ...Las Vegas Boulevard? Something like that.
We gambled away our 10 dollar limits pretty quick, and went back to sleep. |
