-phew, what a day!
From 10AM onward (it is now 2:30) I have spent running
w/the kids. To make a long story shorter:
1-before I could visit the school myself, or ask Prabhu,
Mumtaz took the initiative to get the forms countersigned
by her headmistress, along w/official stamp/seal. I
thought this was a good sign. I indicated to both Mtz. and
the bank that the parents should have no access to this
money. We deposited 1000Rs - by the way, minimum required
is only 500 Rs.
Tonight at 5PM they issue her official passbook,she is
excited.
I made sure she got a proper written receipt for the
deposit and impressed onher the importance of ALWAYS
getting the receipt for any moneys given.
-There was a slight glitch when the 'nominee,' or name of
person to whom all money would go in case of emergency or
death of the child, came up. Mtz. wanted her mom. I said
no - I don't trust them at all! So I put myself. Oh well. We had to invent a
birth date for Mtz,tht is, Dec 17 1987.
Total cost: 1000 Rs deposit
10 Rs stupid rickshaw Vela talked us into
20 flowers for their hair!
50 Rs 4 passport photos for bank ID
