Land of contrasts
11/11/2000
Ankara, Ankara, Turkey
I found Turkey to be a land of great contrasts. Modern Istanbul and small towns where we passed lines of tractor pulled wagons piled high with sugar beets waiting their turn to be weighed and sold to the processing factories. Modern buses and cars driving past donkey pulled wagon carts on the highway.Young women in suits and slacks with makeup and jewelry walking down the sidewalk next women (young or old? who can tell?) who wear long dresses and coats and headscarves that cover their hair co... by agenyus

Chicks Dig Motorcycles...
6/24/2001
Las Vegas, Texas, United States
A good friend once told me that, chicks dig motorcycles. Naturally my curiosity led me to wonder if this theory applied to nerds with motorcycles. While it's not entirely unreasonable to think that there could be a theorectically positive correlation, as communism has taught us time and again, nerds often get their asses kicked. Nonetheless, the thought of purchasing a motorcycle was unshakeable and even though I'll always be a nerd, this certainly wasn't going to make me any less cool. Note... by kolaughlin

Perth, Western Australia, Australia
02/08So we didn't make it to napier, but we did get to a couple of town's within 30 kilometers. Napier is supposed to be pretty fabulous - art deco all around, vineyards, napa valley in NZ.the closest we got to napier was a little wayplace called river valley. it's Kiwi Experiences little stop on the way to wellington, where they wall you up in a picturesque valley, give you lots of expensive rafting/horse riding options, and sell you liquor. we got cozy with one of the temp employees and got so... by tnt

We headed to a block party last night in Wellington on there main party street - Courtney Place. Went with a canadian named lisa and dutchman i called damen (found out later it was timmon). There was a big stage setup, a couple of beer distributers, and a large movie screen showing laurel and hardy. 7 people watching, 3 dancing. we made it 7 dancing. The bands name was 'The Zeattles', they happen to have the same names as the beattles and play very similar songs. I think it's hard for any crowd ... by tnt

Kovalum rules!
2/1/2001
Kochi, Kerala, India
I live in a tropical paradise. You can find Kovalum 15 km south of Trivandrum, Kerala, almost on the southern-most tip of India. I have trouble coming to terms with how much I enjoy being around all these tourists. Usually people travel to see the local people in action, see sights etc, but it's hard to beat a tropical beach paradise with all the amenities, and cheap! If you've read about macrobiotics, then you'll feel familiar with the concept of eating native foods. Like if you live in New Yor... by ileana

Nicaragua, San Juan Del Sur, to Granada
12/14/2000
Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina
After too many days in the anti-capital, Managua, we hopped on a minibus to San Juan del Sur. At the bus station, the folks who recruit people for the buses damn near had a fist fight over us. How special we are. But alas, out of the city. San Juan del Sur is a beutiful and popular little bayside town. The bay, ringed by cliffs, houses unusually cold water, many a boat and the occasional cruise ship. The locals live relatively well, happily and tranquilly. They are complimented by a ... by noah

Peninsula Pop
1/26/2001
Perth, Western Australia, Australia
Very happy to get to a dry hostel in the coramandel peninsula. they even had an abundance of food left over from previous guests. trevor thought the bread looked appetizing. why not toast it. not bad. lets have another. this one has a large dark moldy spot on it, sorta like jupitor. gently set bread down.Crazy beautiful place, even in rain. It is similar to the northern california coast, lots of ledges, verdent foliage, rock outcropping in sea (think goonies). Difference being huge prehistoric f... by tnt

| We arrived in auckland on a Friday night, still feeling the fiji. I was very happy to come upon some bacon as we walked the main strip, queen street. the next day we started to make plans for the remainder of our stay in NZ (where we are off to next, transportaion blah blah boo boo). Didn't finish. Not a problem though right, we have good ol monday to take care of rest. Not aware of the much celebrated Auckland Anniversary. | It should come as no surprise to you folks when I tell you I write from India, drinking a mango lassi at the cyber hut. I like to change my mind like I change my underwear, on a daily basis. I met up with a friend in Dehli from the Kumbh Mela; he had plans to travel to the south, so here I go, tagging along. After a 49 hour trip, 41 on the train to Banglor-- it actually arrived one hour early, a three hour layover, and a five hour bus ride, we arrived in Puttaparthi, state of Andhra Pradesh, at ... by ileana |

| It?s kind of funny, but I?d love to write about the wonderful city of Newport Rhode Island, but I?m coughing up blood right now...(because of the TrekShare Rumble). I also have some informative things to say, but right now they will have to wait. | 2 years in a nutshell |
2/6/2001
London, London, United Kingdom
It's been nearly two years since I arrived in the U.K and have manageed to see and do a hell of aa lot. The longer I seem to stay away from home the quicker the time seems to pass. It's funny because I was initially unsure and hesitant about taking the leap and coming over to the U.K.. You know you have your security at home etc etc. Now it seems to be the other way around. When I return I am going to have to find a job a house. All part of the challenge of life I suppose...... by ozflyer

Managua
12/14/2000
Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina
The bus ride to Managua is uneventful, except for the women of unlikely size that rests most of her girth against me for the duration of the ride. A man with a small afro gets on with an iguana. Without the tail, which has been lopped off, it is about two feet long, with it's legs tied behind it's back, the man throws it down near the front of the bus. It occurs to me that he is in direct violation of rule number 12: no pets on the bus. According to the sign, he is danger of losing his schoo... by noah

To Nicaragua
12/14/2000
Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina
We got up fairly early sunday morning (I think) only to wait for a few ours for transit off the Isla de Tigre. We is me and Diana, another German woman who walks through crowded markets like she's taking a leisurely strol on the boardwalk. By way of boat, bus, and bike - that's right, rickshaw style, straight over the rickety old bridge that crosses the river dividing the two countries - we finally made it to Nicaragua. First stop Le?n. A wonderful mid-size town with a healthy progressi... by noah
