Re: Driving in Central America
13-Aug-2003
Yes but I would not recommend it alone. In the 1980s I drove several tomes through Mexico to Guatemala. No more. Just too risky too expensive. I had my own car down here for 14 years Tax Free on my residency got rid of it last year too expensive to maintain. Buses plentifula dn cheap.

Need your help.......

"Usually people ask for mine. I have lived outside the US for some 22 years almost 20 of those years here in Central America where I have some family. I speak Spanish and am integrated into society. I am now developing a website for Central American Travel http://www.centralamericalanguagetours.comDuring the years 1986-1992 I was an Independent Guide based in Guatemala and conducted over 600 excursions with no major problems except once when the differential of my Automobile went out in the Mountains!(I had 3 mechanics in guatemala then no problem got a tow) Now am ""sourcing"" for other regional operators and if you have a favorite place to stay a great local guide a special restaurant or a great tour company in Guatemala. El Salvador Honduras Nicaragua costa Rica or Panama send us a recommendation. Sometimes one cannot see the flowers growing in their own backyard through the weeds."

trains in Spain don't go from A to B unfortunately. Your best bet is to go ahead and take an overnite train through Marseilles - I've done two routes and that turns out to be the easiest !

Roadtrippin the USA - Tips needed!
21-Jul-2003
I'm planning a 3 month tour de USA starting from east coast ot west this August.

I was thinking of buying a used car for this but I'm not sure about a few things:

A) Would it really be cheaper than rental? I am only 22 years old..

B) What about inssurance?

C) No problem going in and out of Canada?

D) I have an international driver's license. That's cool?

Also what exactly does membership in AAA give me?

How much does sleeping in KIA parks cost? What does it incldue? Better/Worse than Motel 6 if I'm travellnig alone/with 1 partner?

Any and all other tips you can think of more than welcome!

K thanks.
